Getting bored with running Rip Road or on the treadmills? Then take this opportunity to explore some New England's beauty by getting a taste of its trails in all their autumnal spender! Those interested should have a basic level of fitness. Distances can range from about 4-8 miles, based on enrollment preferences. Transportation to trails provided from Robinson Hall.
Canoe Paddle Carving Workshop
Meets Tuesdays, 1-3:30,

Learn how to make your own canoe paddle, from rough board to finished product. Your choice of species (Cherry, Spruce, Ash, Maple, etc) and you design the shape, from a variety of choices. Learn how to use traditional hand tools such as drawknives and spokeshaves, as well as bandsaws or jigsaws. You will come away with a beautiful finished product. No experience necessary! All tools and materials provided. You must complete the Hop Woodshop safety orientation prior to the beginning of class.
Road Biking

Learn the basics of road riding, from maintenance, to bike selection, riding technique to safety awareness. No experience necessary.
N.B. We have a limited number of rental bikes, available at an additional fee of $30 for the time of the course. If you wish to secure one of these bikes, please e-mail [log in to unmask] when you sign up. Otherwise you must provide your own bike.
Woodsmen’s Team/Forestry

Learn to be a lumberjack! A chance to learn all sorts of woodsmen's skills including chopping, splitting, sawing, axe throwing, pole climbing, log rolling, and fire building. No Experience necessary! Class meets behind Robinson hall for transport to Oak Hill practice area.
Warm Water Fishing I
October 16th and 18th, 2-4 PM class; Saturday October 20th field day, 8-6PM

Learn the fundamentals of shore fishing on rivers and lakes of New Hampshire -everything you need to know about this great tradition! You'll spend two indoor classes in Robinson Hall learning theory and technique and then you'll head out on Saturday to experience fishing for VERY hungry fish. We'll learn safe techniques, fish identification, knot tying, and of course how to haul in a lunker! And don't worry, you'll get plenty of "on-water" time. Contact Ray from Collis for more information on the course.

Spend two nights at beautiful lakeside Armington cabin. Learn how to use a DOC cabin, split wood, light and maintain a woodstove, cook on it and use an outhouse as well as spending both days hiking, canoeing and exploring the wilderness. Skills will be developed to help you plan and implement your own outdoor trip, including equipment, route selection and food planning and preparation. Please note that active participation in these courses is required; this will include carrying firewood, washing dishes without running water and partaking in all outdoor activities.

CLIMBING SPORTS
Beginner Slacklining
Wednesday and Friday 3:30-4:30 all term

Slacklining is the act of balancing and walking on a tightly strung piece of webbing. This class will teach the basics of slacklining as well as intermediate techniques, including the basic setup. Anyone can learn to slackline, and the course will accommodate different learning rates and experience levels. Above all, slacklining is ridiculously fun and gratifying to learn.

Learn to canoe on this two-day canoeing overnight trip. Basic canoeing strokes and technique will be covered as you paddle one of New Hampshire's beautiful bodies of water: Lake Willoughby (small but super georgeous lake!), doing a intro/packing session on Friday evening, canoeing down one side of the lake Saturday, hiking up Mt. Pisgah in the afternoon, staying at the campground and going back up the lake the next day, returning to campus thereafter. No canoeing or camping experience necessary.

Learn to canoe on this two-day canoeing overnight trip. Basic canoeing strokes and technique will be covered as you paddle one of New Hampshire's beautiful rivers in Dartmouth’s Second College Grant, paddling the Dead Diamond River to Monahan's Bathtub and then staying overnight in Stoddard cabin, paddling the next day, returning to campus thereafter. No canoeing or camping experience necessary.
