Join us for two events this week, a lecture on May 29th and a film showing on May 30th.

CAMERA, the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America,
and Dartmouth Students for Israel (DSI) present a special lecture by Mr.
Barak Barfi of the New America Foundation on internal Palestinian
politics. The lecture is scheduled for 5 PM on May 29th in Carson
L01. The lecture is cosponsored by Dartmouth's Rockefeller Center, History Department, Government Department, and CHABAD.

Description:
With the Middle East peace process frozen and the region adrift, many
commentators have blamed Israel for the lack of progress.  Lost in the
debate are the internal difficulties and challenges facing the Palestinian
national movement.  The West Bank and Gaza Strip are under the control of
different political factions.  The jockeying for power within the Fatah
organization and the Islamist Hamas movement has paralyzed the Palestinian
territories.  Join us as New America Foundation Research Fellow Barak
Barfi explores the challenges perpetuating the divisions within
Palestinian politics.  Barak lived in the region for several years and has
met the major political players on both sides of this intra-Palestinian
conflict.

Barak Barfi:
Barak Barfi is a research fellow with the New America Foundation,
specializing in Arab and Islamic affairs. His articles have appeared in
the Washington Post, Foreign Policy, New Republic, Jane's Islamic Affairs
Analyst, and CTC Sentinel, in addition to being regular featured in
Project Syndicate. He is also a frequent commentator on CNN, BBC, MSNBC,
Fox News, and France 24, and has testified before Congress about the
threats posed by al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. A former visiting
fellow with the Brookings Institution, he spent six months in Libya during
the revolution.

DSI and CAMERA present a film showing on May 30th at 5 PM in Baker 152 of "The Forgotten Refugees." Delicious pizza will be served.

The Forgotten Refugees (2005)
Directed by Michael Grynzspan
Produced by The David Project and IsraTV
49 minutes, English

"The Forgotten Refugees" is an exceptional documentary that addresses one of the least recognized refugee groups of the 20th century—the nearly one million Jews from Arab countries and Iran who were either forcibly expelled from their homes or otherwise compelled to leave. Commissioned by the David Project for Jewish Leadership in Boston, "The Forgotten Refugees" is the centerpiece of a campaign to educate the world about the destruction of thousands of vibrant Middle Eastern Jewish communities.
