Hey Dartmouth,

Finally, the Off-Campus wikipage is ready for your usage: http://dartmouthsa.wikispaces.com/

Inspired by alumni who recognized the need for institutional memory within Dartmouth's study abroad programs, "Dartmouthsa" (Dartmouth Study Abroad) was born. This site is designed to be a platform for sharing study abroad experiences within our Dartmouth Community.

If you have been on a study abroad program, check it out and please sign up.

Q: Why? What is in it for me?

A: Nothing really – just the gratitude of hundreds of future students and the Dartmouth Community. The idea for the site began after a few Dartmouth alumni realized they had wasted time and energy asking the same questions, committing the same errors, etc as their predecessors. There needed to be institutional memory.

Q: So what is the difference between this wikipage and say wikitravel?

A: Great question. The difference is that this wikipage is program specific. True, there are some areas of overlap when comparing this wikipage to wikitravel, but there are also priceless nuances (“gems”) in our wikipage which wikitravel is too broad to mention.

For example:

Q: What is the difference between the white Mercedes taxis and the blue Peugoet taxis in Tangier Morocco? That little detail could save you 20 bucks.

Q: What are the closest athletic facilities to the campus in Aukland, NZ?

Q: What are the three important phrases you need to know when ordering food at a restaurant in China?

(See wikipage for answers)

We hope you find the site useful. Thank you to those who have helped contribute to it.

Sincerely,

The Student Advisory Board for Off Campus Programs

************************************
The Off-Campus Program Student Advisory Board is a committee dedicated to improving off-campus programs at Dartmouth. The student-led committee works with the Office of Off-Campus Programs to implement real changes to off-campus programs. This includes improving orientation meetings before programs start, creating a database of student experiences and advice for each program, and even adding more off-campus program options. The committee also meets regularly with faculty and administrators across campus to share ideas about enhancing the experiences of students on these programs.
