Like musical theater but don't have time to commit to a fully-fledged production?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SIGN UP for the next "Hey, Let's Make Musicals!" Cabaret! PRIDE-Style!
(blitz back as a an actor, director, or pianist!)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why? Because "If musical theater doesn't address important political issues, what will?"

Our next cabaret will be the weekend of April 21st and 22nd and it will be in the Bentley Theater. And it will be PRIDE-themed to kick off PRIDE Week and the 3rd Annual PRIDE Week Theater Festival! This means that all songs will be LGBTQ-themed. This could include such songs as "If You Were Gay" from Avenue Q, "I'll Cover You" or "Take Me or Leave Me" from Rent, "Two Ladies" from Cabaret, as well as songs from A New Brain, March of the Falsettos, Zanna, Don't! and more! Also any more heterosexual love song from musical theater can be redone with different casting! (Think "Somewhere" from West Side Story but with two men or two women perhaps dreaming of a brighter future together). Anything is possible! Let us know if you have any ideas!

There are no official auditions, but if we (Veronica Haakonsen '12 and Amber Dewey '12) haven't heard you sing, we might ask you to sing a song informally so that we can be more helpful in giving song suggestions.

In Spring 2010, the Harlequins began the "Hey, Let's Make Musicals" Cabarets.  The objective: to allow Dartmouth students to gain experience acting in, directing, and seeing musical theatre in a non-traditional way and with an extremely low time commitment. That same spring Harlequins and DTC combined to create the PRIDE Week Theater Festival, dedicated to performing theatrical pieces that expressed LGBTQ issues. This time, we're celebrating both these achievements by combining for the first ever LGBTQ Cabaret!

For those of you wondering about the April 13th Cabaret that had been planned, this is replacing it and there will hopefully be another cabaret at the end of the term that will allow all of you to sing your non-themed songs.

THE PLAN:
----------------

Reply to this blitz to sign up as either an ACTOR, a DIRECTOR, or a PIANIST.

ACTORS:
- You may sign up either alone or with others.  You can either decide on your own what song to sing or you can let me choose for you.
- If you sign up as an actor you may also direct another scene/song
- If you want to direct your own song you can, though it is discouraged.
- Please indicate in your blitz whether you would only like to be in one song or whether you have time to be in more.

DIRECTORS:
- You may sign up either with a song/scene in mind or let me help you find one.
- You may do either a short scene leading into a song or just a song
- You may sign up either with actors in mind or I can help you find actors to do the song/scene you have in mind.
- You may direct more than one song in each show if your schedule will allow it.

PIANISTS:
- You may play (or be asked to play) as many songs as you can. I hope to have more than one pianist for each show so no one has to learn all the music.
- You should be able to rehearse at least once with each group that you are playing for.
