Nobel laureate Milton Friedman once said that "John Lott has few equals as a perceptive analyst of controversial public policy issues." Newsweek has referred to Lott as "The Gun Crowd's Guru." Lott has held research positions at academic institutions including the University of Chicago, Yale University, the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, Stanford, and Rice.  He was the chief economist at the United States Sentencing Commission during 1988 and 1989. He has published over 100 articles in peer-reviewed academic journals related to his research areas, and has authored seven books, including "More Guns, Less Crime", "The Bias Against Guns" and "Freedomnomics."  Lott earned his Ph.D. in economics from UCLA in 1984. He currently has a son attending Dartmouth.
