Public Lecture by Kotaro Tamura, former Japanese Diet member and currently research associate at Harvard University 4:00 p.m., Carson L01 Sponsored by the Department of History Reception to follow sponsored by OPAL and Students for Japan Mr. Kotaro Tamura earned his degrees from Waseda University (B.A.), Keio University (M.B.A), Yale University (M.A.), and Duke Law School (LL.M.). He was a Liberal Democratic Party member of the House of Councillors in the Diet of Japan (2002-10); Chairman, Committee on Land and Transport, House of Councillors (2008-09); and Parliamentary Secretary for Fiscal and Economic Policy and for Financial Affairs, Cabinet Office, Government of Japan (2006-07). Before entering politics, he worked at Yamaichi Securities and was Chief Editor of the Nihonkai Newspaper and CEO and President of Osaka Daily News. He is the author of /Moshi Nihon ga hitotsu no kaisha dattara/ [If Japan Was a Company] (Eveil, 2010) and has served as a Lecturer at the Duke University School of Law and Keio University Graduate School of Law. In the fall of 2010, he was a Senior Fellow at Yale University's MacMillan Center for International Studies.
