>Subject: Re: #5342 French CD - Dans Un Quartier de Paris

------------------
Hello,
This message is in response to the query about the CD-ROM "Dans un Quartier
de Paris".
I want to let everyone know that this CD-ROM was only released two months
ago by Yale University Press. The biggest difference between "Dans un
Quartier de Paris" and its earlier beta version (entitled Dans le quartier
St. Gervais) is the accompanying Teacher's Guide, a detailed manual
suggesting a variety of culturally-based activities for students of many
levels. The earlier version, which did not have a teacher's guide, made the
uses for beginning students less obvious. Here, teachers are provided with
a step-by-step methodology designed to help students -- of all levels --
develop an insider's look into this neighborhood (part of Le Marais). All
activities include two components: an individual language lab activity and
a follow-up collaborative class activity.
For those interested in taking a closer look, the Student Activities
Workbook is available in PDF format through the following address:
http://www.yale.edu/yup/books/furstenbergS99.html
It should give you a good idea of the range of activities provided.
I also want to add that I presented the CD-ROM at the ACTFL Convention in
Dallas last week-end and showed videotapes of both advanced and beginning
students using it. Perhaps those who attended the session might want to
comment.
Best
