I got VirtualPC when I bought my PowerBook G3 266 (special deal from Apple
at the time). Two inter-related drawbacks to my situation:

I'm running version 2.1.3, and it runs slow on my 266 machine. VirtualPC
is now up to v3.0, which may have better performance on a *slow* machine
like mine. Running on a 333, 350, 400, or 450 should produce more
satisfactory results. (I would say performance is comparable to a 486 or
early Pentium.)

As I said, porformance is slow, but everything runs as it should
otherwise. Emulators are emulators, after all.

One thing to remember: Make sure you get planty of RAM. Emulators are
processor hogs. I've got 192 MB RAM on my G3, with 68 or so allotted to
VPC (which means I'm giving the PC in my Mac about 64 MB RAM to work
with). The more RAM you can give the emulator, the better performace you
should get.

There are only three on the market that I know of: VirtualPC,
SoftWindows, and PCSoft.
