>Subject: HELP! SURVEY INFO NEEDED BY DEAN IN ONE WEEK!!!

Hello all.

Our dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at Northeastern Illinois
University needs to know the following information about other language
lab facilities to compare with our current lab usage requirements and
assignments. Our department currently requires all students in General
Education FL courses (101, 102, and 103 level) to do six lab activities per
semester which are created by me (mostly, with some faculty assistance for
languages other than French, Spanish and Italian).

We need to know quickly how other institutions deal with lab attendance
and mandatory usage. Your responses to the following questions would be
greatly appreciated.

Please send reply to <[log in to unmask]>.

1. Is your lab used as a classroom or a learning library?

2. Does your department(s) have a mandatory lab requirement of any
kind?

3. If yes to Question #1, is the requirement based on students' time
spent in the lab or learning tasks completed?

4. Is language lab usage mandatory at the departmental level (for all or
most courses) or at the course level (for individual instructors)?

5. Are assignments and activities created by faculty or by lab personnel?

6. Does your lab keep attendance records? If yes, how?
