Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, Inc.(TESOL) is 
pleased to announce several new educational opportunities for ESL/EFL
professionals. You will want to attend one of these programs and share the 
information with your colleagues. 

A TWO-PART SERIES ON ON-LINE INSTRUCTION

Want to learn how to teach on-line? Do you need to improve your skills in 
designing and teaching on-line courses? Whether you're starting from 
scratch or have some experience teaching on-line, here's a professional 
development opportunity you won't want to miss. 

Part I: The Basics of On-line Instruction
begins October 26, 1999 for 4 weeks. Only basic knowledge of navigating 
the internet is required.

Part II: Advanced Workshop for On-line Presenters
begins January 12, 2000 for 6 weeks. Part II requires successful 
completion of Part I OR some experience in designing and teaching 
on-line courses.

These on-line workshops will be led by Leslie Hammersmith, Computer-Assisted 
Instruction Specialist, from the Center for Educational Technologies at the 
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

SECOND TESOL Pre--K-12 ESL STANDARDS TRAINING OF TRAINERS (TOT)

The second TESOL pre-K-12 ESL Standards Training of Trainers (TOT)
Conference will be held January 7-8 (Fri-Sat), 2000 at the Long Beach
Westin Hotel, Long Beach, CA.  The meeting is intended for district and
state personnel as well as university educators who are using and/or are
interested in adapting the TESOL ESL Standards to meet their local needs.

Topics will include Integrating the Standards in Teacher Education, 
Standards-based Assessment, Curriculum Development and Standards-based 
Instruction, and Applying the California ELD Standards.
