Using the 8.5 System disk that came with the machine; install the Japanese multilingual components from the System install:

Do a System install; click "Options" and deselect all the components; then select "Multilingual Internet Access" (It is the last option). Using the Information pop-up to choose specific languages, select Japanese. Then install. (This will install basic
Japanese support (no TT fonts, no input, but you will get the latest WorldScript extensions). After that, install your old JLK on top, carefully selecting "Newer" whenever the installer notices duplicate components. Now you should have a fully functional
and updated JLK.
