Dear TBob,
I used to live in Safed, which is one of the four holy cities of Israel
(Jerusalem. Hebron. Safed and Tiberias) and the source of a lot of Jewish
religious law and religious poetry. For some reason there were always cows
roaming around. I have never seen anything like that anywhere else in
Israel. It didn't really bother me except that my dog at the time must have
been part sheep dog, because he always tried to round them up. He usually
wouldn't do a very good job and start a stampede. Anyway, maybe cows are
more spiritual than we think (I kinda have doubts about the beans, though).

One of the best examples I can think of is the Language accross the
curriculum programs on some LxSelect campuses of the SUNY system. I am
particularly familiar with the one at Oswego, where teachers with
significant foreign language skills or ESL speakers (teachers also)
create special segments of courses using course websites, which are
dedicated to exploring course material in a foreign language.

Professor Virginia Fichera (Linguistics) is in charge up there.
