>Subject: The Life & Death of Software: Examining the Selection Process
>Cc: [log in to unmask]

------------------
Dear Colleagues,

A number of months ago we posted a message on this list soliciting
responses to our survey on the software selection process. We were
attempting to find answers to questions such as these:

What is the most influential source of information for software purchases?
Do most people try out software before they purchase it?
Does software purchased by people who try it first tend to be better
suited and more frequently used by their students?
Are checklists usually used in the software selection process?
Does the use of a checklist assure the purchase of more usable software?

Despite a rather low response rate, we now have some tentative
answers to these questions, and will be presenting them at the
forthcoming JALT "CALLing Asia '99" conference (May 22-23, 1999).

For a 'sneak preview' of the paper, please access the following URL:

If you have any criticisms of our approach or additional thoughts on
this subject, we would appreciate hearing from you.
