------------------
Wheaton College is currently developing a web-based
Spanish placement test, designed to be taken over the www.
It doesn't fulfill my definition of "adaptive" but it is
arguably "interactive" in its presentation of the questions.

The main motivation behind its development is to decrease
the number of first year students needing to adjust their
schedules because they registered for the wrong level of
Spanish. Incoming students will be able to take the
placement test from their homes or high schools during the
summer.

We're developing the test using Test Pilot, a Filemaker Pro application
from Purdue. (http://www.clearcutsoft.com/TestPilot/index.html)

It's being developed with a Mellon grant, under the
auspices of Project 2001, and Wheaton is very open to sharing
this work. (A school would need to purchase a Test Pilot license
to use the test for their own students.)
