Subject: device to print out captions?

Is anybody on the list in the know? This is what I want to do: lots of
German and foreign films have captions/subtitles. In Germany you don't
need any additional device to get them on your TV or on the VCR, you
can select the subtitles with your TV remote control. As I have learnt
from recent postings, in the US you must have an additional box that
is hooked to the TV and then does the job. Is it possible to get the
captions out of that box to go to a printer to get them printed out on
paper?
Thanks in advance
