>Subject: Re: #4784 The life & death of software

------------------

Dear Colleagues,

This is a follow-up to our earlier request for responses to a survey concerning the selection process for software. We are particularly interested in programs used for language learning, as opposed to 'tools' such as word processor software.

We hope to be able to answer questions such as this:
  * What is the most influential source of information for
      software purchases?
  * Do most people try out software before they purchase it?
  * Does software purchased by people who try it first tend to
be better suited and more frequently used by their
      students?
  * Are checklists usually used in the software selection
      process?
  * Does the use of a checklist assure the purchase of more
      usable software?

So far we have received too few responses to be able to make any valid conclusions. Your help would be appreciated!

The questionnaire is available as a web form at this URL:

   http://www.kyoto-su.ac.jp/~trobb/softpick.html

We have attached a plain text copy of the questions just so you can see how short it is. Most can be answered with pull-down selections or by marking check boxes.
