------------------
Actually, DIVACE is manufactured by a Finnish company called Teleste.
Tandberg is the American branch of Teleste. Purchasing from Tandberg means
purchasing from Teleste.

We have recently installed the Tandberg Prisma System in our new Multimedia
Language Center. Prisma includes the DIVACE card and software. With the
planned use of our Center, it made perfect financial and pedagogical sense
to spend the money with Tandberg. Our Center will be used more along the
lines of a "master" or "smart" classroom with students in the beginning
language courses meeting one hour per week with their instructor. There is
currently no scheduled drop-in student time for listening to digitized audio
or for computer use. I'm sure hours will expand to include this, but, we're
starting our first semester with this new system and are taking a semester
to get a good grasp on the integration of this new technology.

As far as pricing goes, the Tandberg is very compatible to the cost for a
Sony digital lab. With Tandberg, however, you have an open architecture.
Sony is limited in this respect and most "add-ons" must come from Sony.
We've also integrated the ClassNet LAN (interestingly enough, a Sony
product) into the Tandberg system.

What have we gained with DIVACE, Tandberg Prisma system and ClassNet?

        1. Monitoring of student work in the lab through the
instructor console. (we can monitor their audio work and
                well as their computer work)
        2. We can screen share (ClassNet) so that the instructor
computer screen or any student screen can be the
source for all other computers in the LAN.
        3. Very easy ability for faculty and students to create .wav
files. As opposed to most .wav recording shareware, the
DIVACE provides two "tracks"; a student track and a
program track. Students can, therefor, compare their
output alongside the native speaker on the program
                track.
        4. Ability to track student work with lab/server software and
                files via Tandberg Pilot software.

Those are the advantages I can think of here off the top of my head!
Hope this is helpful.
