This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, July 30th, 2018.



A pair of MISSISSIPPI KITES with a chick was seen in a nest near Madbury 
Road in Durham on July 26th and again on the 27th and 28th. To try to see 
the birds, park at the Durham Town Library, walk out to the road and watch 
overhead for soaring KITES.



A pair of SANDHILL CRANES with a chick was reported from Amherst on July 
27th, and a single SANDHILL CRANE was reported from Harper’s Meadow at Lake 
Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge in Errol on July 29th.



A BLACK VULTURE was reported from Contoocook on July 26th.



A LEAST BITTERN was reported from World End Pond in Salem on July 27th.



An adult-plumaged LITTLE BLUE HERON was seen at the Pickering Ponds, located 
east of the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Rochester on July 30th.



A YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen in coastal Rye on July 29th.



A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen in Nashua on the 25th, and 1 was seen 
in Manchester on the 24th.



A GADWALL was seen in Exeter on July 28th.



A PARASITIC JAEGER was seen in offshore waters on July 29th.



8 STILT SANDPIPERS and a PECTORAL SANDPIPER were seen at Meadow Pond in 
Hampton on July 28th.



2 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS and 4 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS were seen at the 
Rochester Wastewater Treatment Plant on July 26th, and a SANDERLING was seen 
there on the 30th.  The treatment plant is gated and the hours of operation 
are 7:30-3:00 on weekdays. If you visit, please check in at the office and 
be out of the plant by 2:45 so that plant personnel do not have to ask 
birders to leave. Do not drive on the dikes and do not block the road. The 
Trails at Pickering Ponds, located east of the plant, are not gated, and are 
always open during daylight hours.



5 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 2 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, a SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, a 
KILLDEER, a PECTORAL SANDPIPER and a GREATER YELLOWLEGS were seen at a 
mudflat in Orford on July 30th.



16 PURPLE MARTINS were seen in the Hampton Harbor area on July 27th.



An ORCHARD ORIOLE was seen in Brookline on July 24th.



A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was reported from Duck Pond in Lempster on July 29th. 
A BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO was reported from North Sutton on the 26th.



3 MERLINS were seen at Pawtuckaway State Park on July 28th, 1 was seen in 
Laconia on the 27th, and 1 was seen in Hanover on the 28th.
