Aloha,

We have had a great experience with Library World for 4 years. For a subscription of less than $500/year and a bar code reader, we have been able keep track of our media and equipment . I believe there is an app that allows access off campus.

Bar codes can be found online. We customize the bar codes and attach them to items in the collection. That is the most time intensive aspect of the process. Students who want to work through school breaks have done this work.

It just takes a few minutes to set up each user's account with their email and student ID bar code. After that, ID and item to be checked out are scanned with the bar code reader.

Hope this works for you,

Subject: Media and equipment checkout system suggestions

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for an alternative to our current media and equipment checkout and management system called Evergreen.

Does anyone use or know of good systems to manage something like this?

We have relatively few items – maybe a few thousand entries split between books, DVDs, audio recordings and electronic equipment like laptops, media players and adapters.

We are looking for a system that is easily searchable by patrons both on- and off-campus.

If you suggest a system you are familiar with, please include a few notes about pros and cons as you see them as well as the approximate cost, if you don’t mind.

This will help me rank them.

Regards,

Jacob
