This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, May 9th, 2016.



A BLUE GROSBEAK was seen in Manchester on May 8th, but has not been
relocated.



A MISSISSIPPI KITE was seen in North Hampton on May 9th.



A COMMON GALLINULE was reported from the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant
on May 9th.



A LITTLE BLUE HERON was seen at Gilman Park in Exeter on May 7th.



A pair of SANDHILL CRANES has returned to Monroe and one of them was seen on
April 30th. The birds are most often seen in farm fields along Plains Road.
If you look for the birds, please look from the road and do not enter the
fields.



A THICK-BILLED MURRE was seen at Seal Rocks in Rye on May 3rd.



A male HARLEQUIN DUCK was seen from Rye Harbor State Park on May 9th.



2 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were seen in Newfound Lake on May 7th.



A FORSTER’S TERN was reported from the Connecticut River in Charlestown on
May 2nd. Also present were a DUNLIN and 21 LESSER/GREATER YELLOWLEGS. A
GADWALL was seen here on the 7th.



2 COMMON TERNS were seen on Lake Sunapee on May 3rd.



A CASPIAN TERN and a COMMON TERN were seen on Spofford Lake in Chesterfield
on May 5th, and a BLACK TERN was seen here on the 7th.



A CASPIAN TERN, 2 BONAPARTE’S GULLS, a RED-NECKED GREBE, and a RUDDY DUCK
were seen on the Connecticut River in Hinsdale on May 5th. 2 WHITE-WINGED
SCOTERS were seen here on the 7th.



12 BONAPARTE’S GULLS, 29 RED-NECKED GREBES, and 8 LONG-TAILED DUCKS were
seen in Lake Sunapee on May 7th.



2 RED-NECKED GREBES were seen in Newport on May 7th.



34 BONAPARTE’S GULLS, 38 COMMON LOONS, and 3 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS were
seen on Lake Sunapee on May 5th.



A PECTORAL SANDPIPER and 4 LESSER YELLOWLEGS were seen at Pickering Ponds in
Rochester on May 3rd.



16 PURPLE SANDPIPERS, an AMERICAN BITTERN, and a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON
were seen in Hampton on May 6th. An AMERICAN BITTERN was seen in Hollis on
May 3rd, and 1 was seen in Nashua on the 9th.



56 GLOSSY IBIS, 70 SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS, 660 TREE SWALLOWS, and 453 BARN
SWALLOWS were seen migrating north during 5-hours of observation at Hampton
Beach State Park on May 9th.



3 GLOSSY IBIS were seen at World End Pond in Salem on May 7th.



A NORTHERN PINTAIL was seen on the Suncook River in Pittsfield on May 7th.



3 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen in Hanover on May 4th.



2 RED CROSSBILLS were reported from Old Cherry Mountain Road in Jefferson on
May 7th.



4 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen in Bennington on May 7th.



3 GRAY JAYS were seen visiting a birdfeeder in Colebrook on May 3rd.



A “BREWSTER’S” WARBLER, a hybrid between a BLUE-WINGED WARBLER and a
GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER, was seen in Hancock on May 8th.



2 CAPE MAY WARBLERS were reported from Henniker on May 8th, 1 was seen in
Concord on the 9th, and 1 was seen in Hanover on the 9th. A WILSON’S WARBLER
was seen in Pittsfield on May 5th, and 1 was seen in Concord on the 9th. 3
BLACKPOLL WARBLERS were reported from Thornton on the 7th.



A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was seen in Hampton on May 7th, and 1 was seen in
Exeter on the 9th.



An ORCHARD ORIOLE was seen in Antrim, and 1 was seen in Exeter, both on May
9th.



A PURPLE MARTIN was seen in Seabrook on May 6th.



2 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS were seen in Thornton on May 6th.



2 PEREGRINE FALCONS were seen in Lyme on May 5th.



Spring arrivals reported during the past week included: SEMIPALMATED PLOVER,
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, WILLET, RUDDY TURNSTONE, LEAST
SANDPIPER, SOLITARY SANDPIPER, GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER, YELLOW-THROATED
VIREO, CANADA WARBLER, MAGNOLIA WARBLER, BOBOLINK, INDIGO BUNTING, SCARLET
TANAGER, and LINCOLN’S SPARROW.
