Adding to the reports of downed waterfowl, this morning I had a female Black Scoter on the Connecticut River below Ledyard Bridge. I saw the bird from the River Trail in Hanover. I was hoping to see the Ruddy Ducks that George reported yesterday, but no sign of them. The only other waterfowl around were Mallards, Common Mergansers, and Hooded Mergansers. Along the River Trail I also found a lingering juvenile Swamp Sparrow, plus my first tree sparrows of the fall.
