This evening about 1/2 hour after sunset I spotted many hundred to perhaps one or two thousand crows tightly massed on the ground in the open field behind the Elks Club near Exit 18 in Lebanon. About an hour later I drove by again, noting that the group on the ground was smaller, but still very densely packed. Now there were also crows in nearby trees and on the roof of the truck stop. I noticed most of the birds had their breasts directly on the snow with their feet tucked under.
I thought this roosting behavior unusual, as before I've seen it exclusively in trees
------Don
