On the Ottauquechee River below the Route 5 bridge right now are 4 drake Northern Shovelers and 4 Green-winged Teal (3 males and a female) among the 200-plus Mallards and dozen Am. Black Ducks. I didn't find the drake N. Pintail that was here yesterday, or the hybrid N Pintail-Mallard that has been here for several days, but they're probably here. There are also 4 Ring-billed Gulls in the farm fields and half a dozen Song Sparrows singing. A Killdeer also just flew overhead, calling.

The waterfowl will likely move to the fields, melt ponds and manure piles as the day warns.

Chris
