SustainX is a leading global provider of grid-scale energy storage solutions for supporting a cleaner and more efficient electric grid.

We were founded in 2007 and spun out of the Thayer School of Engineering by Troy McBride, Ph.D., Ben Bollinger, Ph.D., Dax Kepshire, Ph.D. and Dean Emeritus Charles Hutchinson, Ph.D. We've received funding from the National Science Foundation Small Business Innovation Research Program and the Energy Storage Program at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), as well as equity investments from top-tier investors Polaris Venture Partners, RockPort Capital Partners, Cadent Energy Partners, General Catalyst Partners, and GE Energy Financial Services.

SustainX has been granted multiple U.S. patents on core aspects of our technology, solidifying our leading position in the field of compressed-air energy storage. The patents cover a wide range of isothermal systems, including both existing SustainX systems and those in development. Our company is on track to demonstrate the first multi-megawatt, grid-connected energy storage system under a grant award from the DOE's Energy Storage Program.
