A Purple Finch was an unexpected find today in the backyard here in  
Norwich village, VT. A complete list of the 16 species detected in the  
backyard today follows:

Mourning Dove  2
Downy Woodpecker  1
Blue Jay  4
American Crow  7
Black-capped Chickadee  4
Tufted Titmouse  1
White-breasted Nuthatch  1
Carolina Wren  1
American Tree Sparrow  2
White-throated Sparrow  3
Dark-eyed Junco  8
Northern Cardinal  3
Purple Finch  1     With prominent white "eyebrow"; either a first  
year male or female.
House Finch  10
Common Redpoll  1
