Subject: issues with old word files containing Cyrillic
Date: January 9, 2012 3:15:07 PM EST

Do any of you have experience retrieving Cyrillic text from very old
Word documents? One of my faculty has a number of files form the
mid-90s which are hard enough to open at all, but when she does get
them open any of the Russian text is junk and the normal tricks of
switching to supported fonts doesn't help. We have tried Word 2004,
2008, and 2011, and text edit on a few Macs. My Windows 7 PC was
unwilling to open the files at all. She is quite distressed that she
cannot retrieve her scholarship.

Thank you in advance.

Alison
