On Saturday morning July 16, a Vermont County Birding Quest walk with  
at least 15 participants was held under pleasant weather conditions at  
Lake Runnemede and vicinity in the town of Windsor, VT. I'll mention  
here several highlights among the birds. Among 45 species encountered,  
waterbirds included Canada Geese, numerous Wood Ducks, a Great Blue  
and Green Herons, as well as a couple of kingfishers. One cuckoo was  
momentarily heard calling and one seen fleetingly, but there was  
uncertainty within the group as to whether more than one species of  
cuckoo might have been present. Numerous Chimney Swifts were seen,  
but, somewhat surprisingly, no swallows of any species were found.

Four species of woodpeckers included the Red-bellied, Downy, Hairy,  
and flicker. Both Alder and the more numerous Willow Flycatchers were  
offering their distinctive songs. Six species of warblers were seen  
with the loudly singing Common Yellowthroats being the warbler species  
most often detected. Among the other landbirds were Swamp Sparrows  
singing, a Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and a Baltimore Oriole.
