"Interesting Times" as the Chinese say here at Samford University.  It looks like we'll be admitting 30 Chinese students as first-year students as well as 15 graduate students in Environmental Management.  The undergraduates will be admitted as "bridge" students who need ESL (only) before being admitted as "regular" students.  This initiative has been taking place with Blitzkrieg swiftness.  Since I actually have taught ESL/EFL in France and North Carolina (albeit 30 years ago) I've been asked to add ESL to my dept.  That's fine, actually.  Frankly we're fortunate to have a wonderful resource in Birmingham with the Univ. of AL at B'ham whose Master's graduates we're hiring and whose program director is on my short list to be nominated for State Teacher of the Year in languages.

To the point:  one of the Associate Provosts asked me to identify "exemplary ESL (TESOL) programs" in the U.S. so she can start working on how to make this new program acceptable to SACS (which is truly the most difficult of the accrediting agencies in the U.S., I think).

So, any thoughts from any of you guys/you all most welcome!
