Lila,

Nice going with your golf course observations.  That's really my beat but since  
the course doesn't open for the season until this weekend I cede it to you for  
the time being.

You described the merlin's calls accurately and that location is where they nested  
last spring.  (For future reference, the fairways between the ninth and 15th are  
the 7th and 8th.)

Though the hermit thrush you heard may have been a migrant there are two locations  
where they nest every year and can be heard well into the summer.
