This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, March 30th, 
2011.



A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was seen at Morrill's Farm in Penacook on 
March 25th, and 4 were seen at Great Meadows in Charlestown on March 26th.



A male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was seen on Great Bay, and one was seen at Seal 
Rocks in Rye, both on March 23rd.



A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen in Great Meadows in Charlestown on March 23rd, 
and again on the 25th.



A flock of over 65 SNOW GEESE was seen at Crete's Field in Boscawen on March 
23rd, 41 were seen in fields in East Conway on the 24th, 2 were seen in 
Hampton Marsh on the 23rd, 1 was seen in Concord on the 23rd, and 1 was seen 
in Dover on the 23rd.



A LESSER SCAUP was seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant, and one 
was seen at Powwow Pond in Kingston, and 6 AMERICAN WIGEON were seen on 
Great Bay, all on March 23rd.



NORTHERN PINTAIL sightings during the past week included 7 on the Merrimack 
River in Boscawen on the 23rd, 4 on Great Bay in Greenland on the 23rd, 3 in 
East Kingston on the 27th, 1 off of Krif Road in Keene on the 23rd, 1 in 
Rochester on the 24th, and one on the Merrimack River in Concord on the 
28th.



A HOARY REDPOLL was reported from Peterborough on March 23rd.



Over 800 COMMON REDPOLLS were reported during the past week, including:

100 in Hancock, over 500 in Strafford, 250 in Peterborough, 70 in 
Chichester, 50 in Enfield Center, and 30 in Goffstown.



13 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were seen at a birdfeeder along Route 1A in Rye 
on March 27th.



A flock of over 80 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS was seen in Epping on March 23rd.,



9 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen at Hampton Beach State Park on March 23rd.



A GLAUCOUS GULL was seen in Rochester on March 24th, and one was seen in 
Hampton Harbor on March 23rd.



An ICELAND GULL was seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant on March 
23rd.



An EASTERN SCREECH-OWL was reported from Merrimack on March 27th.



A female BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen near Cherry Pond at the 
Pondicherry National Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson on March 23rd.



2 PIPING PLOVERS were reported from Seabrook on March 27th.



5 WILSON'S SNIPE were seen at Runnymede Farm in North Hampton on March 23rd, 
7 were seen at Bodwell Farm in East Kingston on the 23rd, and 6 were seen 
from Newington Road in Greenland on the 29th.



A FISH CROW was reported from Kingston on March 30th.



Several RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were reported from Keene on March 23rd.



An EASTERN MEADOWLARK was reported from Madison on March 23rd, one was seen 
in Concord on the 26th, one was seen in Durham on the 26th, and one was seen 
in Portsmouth on the 29th.



50 HORNED LARKS, and 35 KILLDEER were seen at Moore Fields along Route 155A 
in Durham on March 26th, and 33 KILLDEER were seen in the fields at Bodwell 
Farm in East Kingston on March 23rd.



Inland sightings of waterfowl are on the increase as the ice melts, 
including PIED-BILLED GREBES, WOOD DUCKS, HOODED MERGANSERS, COMMON 
MERGANSERS, RING-NECKED DUCKS, BUFFLEHEADS, COMMON GOLDENEYE, GREATER SCAUP, 
and GREEN-WINGED TEAL.



There were reports of OSPREYS, NORTHERN HARRIERS, AMERICAN KESTRELS, 
PEREGRINE FALCONS, TREE SWALLOWS, EASTERN PHOEBES, AMERICAN WOODCOCKS, 
KILLDEER, HORNED LARKS, COMMON GRACKLES, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS, BROWN-HEADED 
COWBIRDS, FOX SPARROWS, CHIPPING SPARROWS, and TURKEY VULTURES during the 
past week.
