George Clark, Ed Hack and I birded from Windsor up to Wilder this
morning and had a few spring firsts (for us). The male Bufflehead and 2
male Common Goldeneyes were still at the Conn-White R. junction. Other
highlights included:
Turkey Vulture - 5 total, all in White River Jct.
Bald Eagle - 2 soaring below Wilder Dam, 1 adult, 1 immature
Wood Duck - 1 male at confluence of Ottauquechee and Conn. Rivers, 2
others seen in flight nearby
Northern Flicker - 1 in a tree bordering the dike at Lake Runnemede
Northern Shrike - an adult at the Windsor Correctional Facility
property, likely the same bird that others have seen in recent weeks
Bohemian Waxing - 100+ at Windsor Correctional Facility, 75 at
Conn-White R. jct
Song Sparrow - 1 in brushy tangle on wooded slope in WRJ opposite the
south end of Johnson Island
Common Grackle - singles and small groups in several locations
