>Subject: Any tips on finding non-English films on DVD?

Dear Colleagues,

Here at Harvard, we are seeing increasing faculty interest in DVDs
with L2 subtitles. In some languages (Spanish, Chinese, Japanese),
these seem fairly easy to find, but in other languages -- French comes
to mind -- we often have difficulty finding target-language-subtitled (or
closed-captioned) DVDs.

Therefore, I am wondering if anyone on the list can share good sources for --

     -For foreign-language DVDs that are not readily available, say,
at Amazon -- especially with target-language subtitles;
     -For reliable online sources to download subtitle files;
     -For software to add/burn subtitles to an encoded streaming clip.

If you'd prefer to reply to me off-list, I would be happy to compile
and post a summary.

--Thom
