Shortly after noon today (March 5) here in Norwich village a male Red-
winged Blackbird flew into the backyard feeding station area where it
joined Blue Jays in foraging on top of the snow cover. Later I heard
the nearby song of an unseen Red-wing, possibly the same individual.
Today's encounter was my first of this season for a Red-wing and
reenforces thoughts that spring is on the way.

In addition to the Red-wing, other species found around the yard so
far today have included Mourning Doves (2 individuals), a Downy
Woodpecker, Blue Jays (15), an American Crow, Black-capped Chickadees
(3), a Tufted Titmouse, an American Robin, American Tree Sparrows (4),
a White-throated Sparrow, Dark-eyed Juncos (6), Northern Cardinals
(2), and House Finches (3).

George
