Colleagues,
This year MAALLT is trying something new--an unconference--and everyone is invited.
Plan now--March 4 is coming soon--to spend a pleasant weekend at the University
of Richmond (VA) sharing ideas with your colleagues. The unconference kicks off
the evening of March 4 with a reception and a familiarization tour of the meeting
spaces. Saturday is the 'main event', while Sunday morning provides the time
to summarize, reflect, and plan for the future. (Sunday is also an ideal time
to visit the city of Richmond, including the major Picasso exhibit at the Virginia
Museum of Fine Arts.)
We're meeting in the new (open mid-August 2010) Carole Weinstein International
Center, which has comfortable spaces and lots of technology. It also houses the
Spatial Analysis Lab, where participants will have the opportunity to learn more
about the use of GIS for teaching and student research. Starting now, the participants
will set all the other topics and the agenda via the conference social network
at http://maallt2011.grouply.com. We'll experiment with several different formats:
'birds of a feather' discussions, TeachMeet/Pecha Kucha-style presentations,
short workshops. We know that everyone has something to share about the use of
technology in language education.
Transportation and lodging information is available at the Grouply site; Richmond
is easily accessible by car, plane, train, and bus and has a number of hotel/motel
choices. Complete registration information is coming soon; the estimated cost
is $50.
So put the date on your calendar, join the conference network at http://maallt2011.grouply.com,
and start planning your participation. We look forward to a very interesting
weekend!
See you March 4!
Sharon Scinicariello, Unconference Host
