ESL POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Coordinator & Lecturer in English as a Second Language
University of Notre Dame


Salary: Starting at $40,000 + Full Benefits
Type: Full Time Faculty - Experienced


* This renewable academic year position begins on January 3, 2011.
* This position is housed within the Center for the Study of Languages & Cultures  
(http://cslc.nd.edu/) and will report to the Center Director
* Position to be filled immediately.

Instructional responsibilities: 70%
* Teach two courses each fall and spring semester and coordinate supplementary  
ESL support programs
* Instruction includes teaching ESL courses for matriculated students and international  
teaching assistants
* Oversee day to day operation of an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) workshop  
program taught by graduate student fellows and combined with drop-in tutoring  
support (http://cslc.nd.edu/eap/)
* Hold office hours, conferences, and individual tutorials with students and relevant  
faculty
  Use language learning technology to support English language teaching, programming  
and self-study resources
Note: Availability to teach during summer for additional remuneration is an advantage


Instructional support : 20%
* Take part in assessment reviews as well as curriculum development
* Administer & rate entrance tests on a rotating basis & make classroom visits  
to international TA classes
* Serve as mentor for teaching assistants and EAP Workshop fellows
* Conduct formal observations for teaching assistants
* Serve as the immediate supervisor of ESL fellows and student staff
* Other duties as requested by the Director of the Center for the Study of Languages  
& Cultures


Other Activities: 10%
* Serve on ESL program committees
* Take part in outreach activities and special projects
* Attend and present at professional conferences
* Other duties as requested by the Director of the Center for the Study of Languages  
& Cultures


Minimum Requirements:
* M.A. in applied linguistics, TESOL, or comparable field
* At least three years of full-time ESL teaching experience in a university setting
* Ability to teach all skill areas (academic writing, reading, speaking, pronunciation,  
grammar, bridge)
* A knowledge of and interest in educational technology

* International teaching experience and foreign language competency are desirable  
but not required
