AT UF the first and second years have adopted the textbook !Anda! along with MySpanishLab.
2009-2010 was the first year, and the elementary courses continued the same, but
this year they have become officially hybrid, meeting with the instructor 3 times
a week instead of 5 (but still they are 5-credit courses). (NB we have never had
the lab capacity to have all the elem. Spanish classes meet weekly in the lab,
so this is radical.) The course director seems very pleased with the way it has
gone. My understanding is that there has been some sacrifice of grammar work in
the first year, compared to the old textbook, but that otherwise it is a good
course.

I think it probably depends on the book, how much is online. For this series,
everything is online. The students buy a textbook but the textbook itself is online.
MySpanishLab is a complete course management system with integrated speech recording
software (Wimba-based), a little video series, plus all the workbook stuff and
more. Instructors get information about how well students did on the workbook/lab
manual material plus they do holistic grading of compositions and audio recordings.

My impression as lab director overseeing orientations is that the Pearson folks
are responsive to technical problems.
