I believe the main reason these graphics are included in these packages is that  
the students love to look at them.  It does encourage them to keep practising  
as they try to match the sounds, but as far as I know, research has demonstrated  
that staring at the graphic makes no difference whatsoever (but I would think  
it should be useful for certain types of problems such as initial "ch" versus  
"sh."
