This morning in the vicinity of the beaver ponds in the woodlands
along Norwich's Tigertown Road, eleven birders began the sixth Norwich
2010 Birding Quest walk just as rain started. Despite precipitation
during the entire walk, numerous sightings and songs of birds were
enjoyed. "Bird-of-the-morning" might have been Veery, a species
repeatedly heard and seen. A frequently singing but unseen Northern
Parula was probably the most uncommon species detected. Towards the
end of the walk Spencer Hardy spotted a female Black-throated Blue
Warbler carrying plant material to a nest under construction
unexpectedly close to the edge of the road. A list follows:

Mourning Dove 1
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker 2
Eastern Wood-Pewee 1
Alder Flycatcher 1
Least Flycatcher 4
Red-eyed Vireo 3
Blue Jay 1
Tree Swallow 2
Brown Creeper 1
Veery 6
American Robin 2
Northern Parula 1
Chestnut-sided Warbler 1
Black-throated Blue Warbler 2 (and a nest under construction)
Yellow-rumped Warbler 3
Ovenbird 4
Common Yellowthroat 2
Scarlet Tanager 1
Song Sparrow 2
Swamp Sparrow 1
Rose-breasted Grosbeak 1
Red-winged Blackbird 3
Purple Finch 1
