This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, May 26th, 
2010.



A SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was found in North Conway on May 18th. It was 
seen in several locations, including near the church across from Peaches 
Restaurant, between Main Street and North-South Road, and behind Hancock 
Lumber on Route 16. It was seen again on May 19th, 20th, and 21st, but has 
not been relocated since then.



2 MISSISSIPPI KITES were seen flying near Gonet Drive in Newmarket on May 
26th. Two pairs of MISSISSIPPI KITES nested in Newmarket last year.



An ACADIAN FLYCATCHER was reported from Hampton Falls on May 23rd, but has 
not been reported since then.



A possible YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER was reported from North Conway on May 
21st, but not confirmed. It has not been relocated.



A CERULEAN WARBLER was found in Pawtuckaway State Park in Nottingham on May 
22nd.



A CAPE MAY WARBLER, a BAY-BREASTED WARBLER, 3 MOURNING WARBLERS a 
BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, and a BLACK GUILLEMOT were seen at Star Island in the 
Isles of Shoals on May 22nd.



2 ROSEATE TERNS were seen at Seavey Island, one of the Isles of Shoals, on 
May 22nd.



A LEACH'S STORM-PETREL, 2 WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS and 50 NORTHERN GANNETS 
were seen on a whale watch cruise out of Rye on May 23rd.



A LEAST BITTERN, a SORA, and a VIRGINIA RAIL were all heard at the 
 "setbacks" on the Connecticut River in Hinsdale on May 23rd.



A PECTORAL SANDPIPER, a DUNLIN, and a LESSER YELLOWLEGS were seen at Surry 
Lake on May 22nd.



12 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS were seen in a drained wetland on Spinney Lane in 
Durham on May 26th.



2 NORTHERN SHOVELERS, a SORA, a PURPLE MARTIN, and 2 ORCHARD ORIOLES were 
reported from Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on May 26th.



A flock of BRANT was heard migrating at night in Strafford on May 21st, a 
flock of 18 was seen in the Piscataqua River on May 23rd, and 8 were seen in 
Hampton on May 26th.



2 GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS were seen at the Dillant Hopkins Airport in Swanzey 
on May 23rd, and one was seen along McIntyre Road in Newington on May 22nd.



An ORCHARD ORIOLE was reported from Hinsdale, one was reported Brentwood, 
and one was reported from the Exeter, all on May 22nd.



An AMERICAN PIPIT was seen in Seabrook on May 20th, and one was seen at the 
Derry Wastewater Treatment Plant on May 22nd.



A PURPLE MARTIN was seen in Conway on May 22nd.



11 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were seen on Dort Road in Surry on May 23rd, 3 were 
seen in Great Meadow in Hollis on May 21st, one was seen in Conway on May 
22nd, one was seen in Keene on May 22nd, and one was seen in Hanover on May 
24th.



3 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS and an EVENING GROSBEAK were reported from the 
Zealand Trail in Crawford Notch on May 23rd.



A BAY-BREASTED WARBLER and 2 EVENING GROSBEAKS were reported from a private 
residence in Spofford on May 20th.



A pair of EVENING GROSBEAKS was seen at a bird feeder in Hebron on May 24th, 
and 4 were reported from Sullivan on the 23rd.



A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER nest can be seen from the viewing platform at the 
end of the trail out to Little Cherry Pond in the Pondicherry National 
Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson. The nest is located in a dead black spruce 
about 400 feet across the water to the southwest. The adults are currently 
feeding young. A spotting scope is recommended.



An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was reported from Mount Evans in Strafford on May 
20th, one was reported from Mountain Pond in Chatham on May 23rd, and one 
was reported from Hancock on May 26th.



A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, a BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, and several TENNESSEE 
WARBLERS were reported during the past week.
