LANGUAGE TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (Oldenborg Center)                          
         P1815

      Salary: Dependent upon qualifications
      Regular, full-time, 12-month position

Pomona College and the Oldenborg Center seek a Language Technology
Specialist who will supply academic technological support and lead the
integration of such technology into the teaching of foreign languages
(Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish), preferably also
teaching one lower-level course of such foreign language each year. Primary
responsibilities include: managing the state-of-the-art Foreign Language
Resource Center (FLRC) including budget, acquisitions, and student staff;
support and train Oldenborg Center Language Residents in conversation class
project development;  support and guide language faculty in adopting
innovative and engaging technology in the foreign language classroom;
provide language faculty with vital data access and audio/multimedia
delivery services, copyright permissions and advice; contribute to language
faculty development by providing occasional workshops in emerging
technologies including multi-media development;  coordinate and collaborate
with the instructional technology group (ITG) on campus.  The Oldenborg
Center promotes the teaching and learning of foreign languages and cultures
on campus via a number of curricular and co-curricular programs; the FLRC
specifically promotes the use of academic technology so that the foreign
language classroom remains a site of innovation and learning for students
and their faculty.  This position reports to the Oldenborg Center Director.
 Preferred start date: July 1st.            

Required:  M.A. in a foreign language, literature, linguistics, education,
educational technology, or related field.  Native or near-native fluency in
English and one other language.  Demonstrated ability to develop and
implement innovative programs and instruction; strong instructional
technology experience; experience in academic administration; excellent
written and oral communication skills. Experience working with a wide range
and diverse group of faculty, students, and staff. Experience with
budgeting, planning and scheduling; successful supervisory experience;
well-developed interpersonal and customer service skills. 

Desired: One to three years of similar experience in an academic or
nonprofit area. Experience teaching foreign languages in higher education.
Familiarity with instructional technology within networked environments,
digital media, web-based instruction, and basic issues concerning
intellectual property, copyright, and publishing; strong computing and
technical skills. Ability to envision the use of a wide range of media and
technologies in concert to their fullest potential for increased
instructional effectiveness. Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills.
