Tonight is CnT summer elections for 10X. Any memeber of Cabin and Trail can
vote so if you can't make the CnT meeting tonight we will accept absentee
ballots via blitzes to the CnT account before 9 pm tonight.

You can vote for two co-chairs and their blurbs are alphabetically below.

Charlie Governali

Hi!
I'm Charlie, I'm a '12 (obviously) from Maine, and I'd love to be your summer
CnT chair!
My reason for running for the chair position: the club has given an enormous
amount to me, in the form of outdoor and leadership experience, as well as a
community on campus that I feel at home in--and I feel like I need to give
back to the club in a bigger way than just by leading trips myself.
I'm currently off-campus (doing bird research with a crew near Woodstock,
NH) but I've been a leader since the end of last spring, and I've done trips
of all sorts--from leading a section (Team Roadrunner - meep-meep!) in
Canyonlands over spring break, to winter backpacking on the Frozen Fifty, to
the Presi traverse and overnight trips in the whites, to building stone
steps and water bars on Moose Mtn, to leading casual morning bird-watching
 walks at Mink Brook.
As chair, most importantly I'd want to ensure that club remains a welcoming
place for Dartmouth students new to the outdoors, or even just students
looking for a home on campus, as many of us were during our freshman year or
later. This requires a focus on the atmosphere of meetings, as well as club
social events- making sure they're comfortable for students new to the club.
It also demands maintaining the broad spectrum of trips that we already run
and encouraging an even wider variety. For example, trip types I'd like to
facilitate include back-country hiking and orienteering, canoe-camping,
birding or nature walks, and multi-day backpacking trips (spending the night
on the trail).
I'd be excited to commit myself to the work that makes this club tick, and
I'll put into it the same level of energy that I expend on the trail!

Thanks for reading!

Ben Hughey

Hi, my name is Ben, I'm in the class of 2012, a Geography major, and
I'm studying abroad in Buenos Aires this term.

I'm running for co-chair this summer term because I would like to do
some things. One of those things is get new people. Another of those
things is get those people outside doing cool things. Another of those
things is do things with other clubs. And another of those things is
have fun. That last thing is really important. I hope these things
seem like good things to you.

To clarify, I think summer is a great time for intra-DOC club
collaboration, recruitment and exceptionally awesome trips.

Besos,
Ben

Marietta Smith

Dear Chubbers,

I'm Marietta a '12 neuroscience major from a suburb of Chicago (Deep Dish!),
and I am running for CnT Summer Chair to help extend CnT's inherent awesomeness
to more '12s and others around for 10X.

I would like to help other '12s overcome their mid-college-life-crisis by
coordinating a good blend of beginner trips with more challenging adventures to
appeal to all ability levels. Summer is the perfect time to try "new
experiences," so staying true to my morals committee spirit, I hope a trailwork
trip, (photo/sunrise/sunset/50/spurofthemoment)hike, woodsmen's practice, cabin
overnight, Grant trip, Lodge dinner, or dinertoure can be one of those "new
experiences."

Since becoming involved with CnT my freshman spring, I have found a welcoming
community united around leading sweet trips and getting outdoors. I think a
lot of students want to get involved but are either nervous about going on a
trip alone or are unsure what the trip entails. By hosting bring-a-friend to
CnT meetings (props to Ledyard for the idea) and by working with other DOC
subclubs, I would like to foster a "The Outdoors Are Your New BFFL" mentality.

By blending sheer enthusiasm with practical organization skillz, I want to have
a ballin' sophomore summer with CnT.

Loveinthischub,
Marietta

P.S. I don't take off my clothes for just anyone

Billy Zou

My name is Billy and I'm interested in being co-chair this summer for two
reasons: one, I think 10X could be the best summer ever, and out of mutual love
I want it be everything you '12s dreamt it would be; two, I will be doing
research in Remson and not taking classes, meaning that I can spend all of my
off-hours planning and coordinating awesome trips.

Over the summer I would like to see trips of all types and levels, for example
kayaking or climbing combined with more traditional CnT activities, so that
chubbers can experience the variety of outdoor pursuits that they have at their
disposal without having to endure the Ledyard blitzlist. When berry season
opens I'd like to do a bike and bake to some of the nearby farms in Grafton
county, and maybe even start a warmer version of cabinhopping (islandhopping,
anyone?) Summer is also a great time to bring fresh new faces into our
community. These are just some ideas; I know what a valuable resource our
leaders are and I'm really excited to work with them to stretch their limits
and achieve the things they want to see happen. Finally, if it isn't apparent
enough, I love CnT and the people in it. All I really want is to make you guys
happy.
