After returning from a wet field trip to Plum Island, as part of
a birding class sponsored by VCE, the Montshire, and Corrnell, a few
of us continued to Ledyard in an attempt to find the Orchard Oriole.
The Orchard did not make an appearance, but we were not disappointing
with the warblers, mostly on the far end of the "causeway."
Highlights below, from ebird. (~5pm)
1 Cooper's Hawk
1 Merlin FOYN (first for Norwich)
1 Spotted Sandpiper
1 Chimney Swift
2 Least Flycatcher FOYN?
2 Northern Rough-winged Swallow
1 Brown Creeper
1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet
4 Gray Catbird
1 Yellow Warbler
2 Chestnut-sided Warbler
1 Magnolia Warbler
2 CAPE MAY WARBLER both males, singing, FOYN
2 Yellow-rumped Warbler
1 Pine Warbler
3 American Redstart
1 Canada Warbler FOYN
3 White-throated Sparrow
1 Baltimore Oriole female
Total species reported: 35
A quick run on Bragg Hill was surprisingly productive. (~7pm)
1 Pileated Woodpecker
1 Least Flycatcher
1 Wood Thrush FOYN?
2 Chestnut-sided Warbler
4 Ovenbird
5 Bobolink
2 Rainbows
Total species reported: 16
