Hi Ed:

I would recommend a couple of resources for more info or examples of using
Second Life for Language Learning.

First, does your school belong to the New Media Consortium? If not they
should...their work in and their support for Second Life in Higher Ed is
wonderful (htttp://nmc.org)

Second you should look at the work that ISTE (http://www.iste.org) is doing
in SL.. and in particular this part of their site:
http://www.iste.org/Content/NavigationMenu/Membership/Member_Networking/ISTE_Sec
ond_Life.htm
I have been really impressed with their support for newbies "in world."

You might also consider joining/following this blog: http://www.rezed.org/

The work being done by our European colleagues in using virtual worlds for
the teaching of English is also something you might wish to explore. To that
end, you might enjoy joining this ning and exploring the in world workshops
that are being held over the next few weeks...all aimed at the teaching and
learning of languages in SL: http://tlinvw.ning.com

I hope others will add their thoughts and their resources as well....
