This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Tuesday, December 22nd, 
2009.



A trio of possible TUNDRA SWANS was seen over the Piscataqua River in 
Newington on December 17th.



A very late-season OSPREY was reported from Exeter on December 19th.



A FOX SPARROW was reported from Durham on December 17th.



An estimated 500 AMERICAN CROWS was seen in Lebanon on December 19th.



The annual Christmas Bird Count period has started. The count period 
continues until January 3rd. Check the NH Audubon website for additional 
count dates, and to find out how to participate - the count is open to all.

Coastal Christmas Bird Count, December 19, 2009. Highlights included:

2 SNOW GEESE, 9 LESSER SCAUP, 2 BARROW'S GOLDENEYES, 13 BALD EAGLES, 2 
MERLINS, a PEREGRINE FALCON, 2 KILLDEER, a GLACUOUS GULL, a BLACK-LEGGED 
KITIWAKE, a DOVEKIE, a RAZORBILL, 11 EASTERN SCREECH-OWLS, a SAW-WHET OWL, 
31 RED-BELLIED WOODPECKERS, a YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, 14 CAROLINA WRENS, 4 
WINTER WRENS, a

FIELD SPARROW, an "IPSWICH" SAVANNA SPARROW, a LINCOLN'S SPARROW, and an 
"OREGON" DARK-EYED JUNCO.



Errol-Umbagog Christmas Bird Count, December 16, 2009. Highlights included: 
a GOLDEN EAGLE, 3 BALD EAGLES, a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER, 4 GRAY JAYS, 8 
BOREAL CHICKADEES, 6 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, 67 EVENING GROSBEAKS, a SNOW 
BUNTING, 143 PURPLE FINCHES, 2 PINE SISKINS, 64 RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES, 35 
GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS, a HOODED MERGANSER, 14 COMMON MERGANSERS, and a 
RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD.



Pittsburg Christmas Bird Count, December 15, 2009. Highlights included: a 
BALD EAGLE, a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER, 22 GRAY JAYS, 23 BOREAL CHICKADEES, 2 
LAPLAND LONGSPURS, 3 SNOW BUNTINGS, 4 RED CROSSBILLS, 16 WHITE-WINGED 
CROSSBILLS, 87 EVENING GROSBEAKS, 697 PURPLE FINCHES, 301 RED-BREASTED 
NUTHATCHES, a TUFTED TITMOUSE, 64 GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS, 3 AMERICAN TREE 
SPARROWS, 11 WILD TURKEYS, a COMMON LOON, a GREAT BLUE HERON, a RING-BILLED 
GULL, and 2 HERRING GULLS.
