We have installed a Purell Hand Sanitizer in the room to provide
additional protection. We routinely use a disinfectant ( what hair
salons put their combs and brushes in when not in use) headphones so
that hair lice do not create problems and as well wipe all surfaces with
Lysol on a regular basis. We use MB Quart Head sets with replaceable
ear pads. Although the headsets cost $130 Canadian each, we have had
these in use since the late 1970's and other than changing ear pads as
they wear out, they do not fail. The disinfectant will destroy the ear
pads if the disinfectant is applied and not rinsed afterwards with
clear water. Our procedure is to go through the lab, treat the ear
pads, then go through a second time and rinse the ear pads with clear
water. Ear pads made with foam rubber will break down very quickly and
even rinsing them with water still results in the ear pads
disintegrating.
