One of our campus lab directors jokingly suggested Keyboard Kondoms
(TM) as a million-dollar business idea. I'm trying to figure out if we
could do something of the sort with plastic food wrap. I think it
might make an acceptable, disposable, one-use keyboard cover, for
students who want to use it. I'm going to try different thicknesses
and brands, to see which feels best for typing. I think I can cover
the mouse, too.
I don't like to introduce more ecological wastefulness by introducing
disposable plastic items to our labs, but I am ready to do it to
protect student health. I also rationalize that keyboard wipes, hand
sanitizers, and illness all have their environmental costs.
If anyone else has ideas along these lines, I would love to hear from
you. I will post the results of my experiments.
Derek
