This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, August 26th,
2009.

A FRANKLIN'S GULL was found at the Rochester Wastewater Treatment Plant on
August 24th, and was last reported on the 26th. An a AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER
and a STILT SANDPIPER were also seen here on the 24th, and a CATTLE EGRET
and 40 LEAST SANDPIPERS were seen on the 25th. The treatment plant is gated
and the hours of operation are 7:30-3:00 on weekdays. If you visit, please
check in at the office and be out of the plant by 2:45 so that plant
personnel do not have to ask birders to leave. Do not drive on the dikes and
do not block the road.

Two pairs of MISSISSIPPI KITES nested in Newmarket this spring and summer,
near the same two sites where they nested in 2008. One site is near South
Main Street west of the public school, and even though it appears that this
nesting attempt has failed this year, the birds were reported from the area
on August 23rd. The other site is along Gonet Road, near where it loops back
on itself, and this pair is feeding a nearly fledged chick. These birds are
in residential areas and if you look for them please remember to respect
property rights and individual privacy, and don't park illegally or block
traffic.

2 MANX SHEARWATERS, 12 CORY'S SHEARWATERS, 150 SOOTY SHEARWATERS, 400
GREATER SHEARWATERS, over 500 WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS, a RED-NECKED
PHALAROPE, and a BLACK GUILLEMOT were reported from a whale watch trip out
of Rye Harbor on August 24th.

5 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, a WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, and 500 SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPERS were reported from Plaice Cove in Hampton on August 25th, 2
BAIRD'S SANDPIPER were seen here on the 22nd, and a LEAST TERN was seen
flying by on the 21st.

2 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, and 2 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS were seen in the tidal
pools at the end of Landing Road in Hampton on August 25th.

A RED KNOT was seen in Hampton Harbor, and a STILT SANDPIPER was seen in
Meadow Pond in Hampton, both on August 21st.

A HUDSONIAN GODWIT and 4 PURPLE MARTINS were seen in Hampton Harbor on
August 22nd.

A YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was reported from Island Path in Hampton on
August 22nd. There have been several BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS reported
from the same area as well as Hampton Harbor during the past week.

A GREAT EGRET was seen in Concord on August 25th, and one was seen in
Ashland on the 21st.

A BAY-BREASTED WARBLER and a WILSON'S WARBLER were seen at the Keene State
College Wildlife Management Area on August 25th.

COMMON NIGHTHAWK migration continues with 460 tallied from Concord, 125 seen
