It's surprising how often publishers fail to provide this useful
information to the online CD track name data bases, where we can all
access it easily. I just received a two disk Chinese audio set, and
one disc had the track name entries in the online database, while the
other didn't.

In my experience, few professors or students understand that the track
name data for an Audio CD is not stored on the disc itself. It is
acquired so seamlessly from the online CD database(s), that most people
assume that the data is on the disc itself (or not). When we get a
disc that doesn't display the track names, we always type in the names,
and upload the information to an online CD track name database. That
way, all of our students will be able to access the names
automatically, even when they are using the CDs at home. And all of
our colleagues anywhere in the country (world?) will be spared the
confusion of seeing only numbers, rather than useful track names, or
the duplicated effort of entering the track names again locally.

I encourage everyone to do the same. I use iTunes software to enter
and upload the track names to the online database (I think iTunes links
to GraceNote), but there are other options. Look for "Submit CD Track
Names" under the iTunes "Advanced" menu.
