Pax et bonum! (peace & goodness)

I am currently doing some research on blindness and SLA in adult
education. I was given the following information from the NIFL ListServ.
Hope it helps.

Ciao!
Martin E. Senger

Hello Martin,

This is Sylvie Kashdan of the Kaizen Program for New English Learners
With Visual Limitations. Since 1997, I have been assisting adult
immigrants and refugees who are blind or have low vision as well as
advising and training professionals and volunteers who have had no prior
experience teaching such students.

Perhaps you will find it of help to read some of the material on our web
site, such as:

our Kaizen Program: Informational Brochure

http://www.nwlincs.org/kaizen/about.htm

Teaching English to Immigrants and Refugees with Visual Limitations:
How do you do it?

http://www.nwlincs.org/kaizen/How_do_you_do_%20it_for_web_page.htm

Notes on the Needs of New English Learners with Vision Limitations

Kaizen Program: Population Survey

American Foundation for the Blind Symposium Paper, 2002 Teaching
English as a New Language to Visually Impaired and Blind ESL
Students: Problems and Possibilities

http://www.nwlincs.org/kaizen/Symposium.htm

This last paper, in addition to discussing relevant approaches and
methods, also discusses a separate program which Kaizen conducted along
with the St.
James ESL Program in Seattle. This program lasted for five years, but is
no longer in existence. Nevertheless, the paper may still provide you
with some helpful information.

If, after reading this material, you want further information or have
specific questions about assisting blind and visually-impaired
immigrants and refugees to learn English, feel free to contact me
off-list.
I will be glad to discuss your challenges and interests as well as share
materials not yet posted on the web site.

Best regards,

Sylvie Kashdan, M.A.

Hello!

I have been asked to find out how our LRC can support a blind incoming
student who wants to continue his study of German. We currently have
no adaptive technology but are willing to acquire whatever might be
useful.

Do those of you with experience in this area have recommendations?

Thank you,
Sharon Scinicariello
