I am not sure I know what you mean by "straight to web" so excuse me if I am
behind the curve here.
I suspect you are looking for something more guerrilla film making / field
friendly. How cool!
Classroom Capture Cart
We use a capture cart consisting of a small wheeled table, articulating arm,
camcorder, Shotgun mic, firewire cable, Mac Laptop. We firewire into QT Pro
directly from the camcorder which is mounted on the articulating arm. The arm
makes it easier to position the camera and is more stable then a tripod. We do
not use MiniDV tapes unless the content is higher stakes.

After class or even during class the movie clips can be dragged and dropped into
a CourseWork (Sakai) folder mounted on the desktop with Sakai's WebDav
mounting, or FTPed from a Fetch droplet into WWW directories, croned into a
watched folders for batch processing into PodCast Producer, ffmpeg or whatever.
With proper server setup the files could record directly to web directory.
Pros - requires minimal training, (QT Pro recording interface has one button.)
the station can be moved between rooms, supports DV/HD cameras, delivers clips
in real-time and in a flexible format, lets us record directly to computer AND
to MiniDV simultaneously. It has been a real workhorse for us. This setup
would work very well with Flash Media Server or Wowza or YouTube or whatever.
As far as camera models, I just took a good, three day web video workshop and
the recommended HD camera for interviews was a Canon VIXIA HV30. The leaders
of the workshop felt that harddrive cameras were still not quite good enough.
Finally, we cannot live without our Rode Shotgun mic. You'll have to pry that
shotgun mic from my cold dead hands!

Hi Jon,
Check out the Sanyo Xacti line. I have personal experience with and
could highly recommend the HD1010 (http://tinyurl.com/cyrrlj); it
meets all of your requirements, but is also a bit pricey. More
affordable models from Sanyo include the VPC line
(http://tinyurl.com/c7k5vx), which also look like they'd be a good fit
for you, and are around $200.
